From October 14-18, 2026, the Liverpool International Theatre Festival will showcase 10 curated one-act plays performed by visiting theatre troupes from around the world.
American poet and activist Andrea Gibson shares their life story, starting from their childhood, describing their early struggles with identity and trauma from family and their awareness of their sexual identity. Gibson also explained how poetry intertwines personal pain and how it helps spread their messages about the LGBTQ community and human and political inequalities. Gibson also addresses the theme of love with their wife Megan Falley, with whom they recount the drama of their battle with terminal ovarian cancer diagnosed in 2021.

Stop-Motion Club started in 2024 by Desmond Smyth, a local high school student who had an interest in Stop-Motion when he was younger and wanted to teach the younger generation about this animation form.
Our club has expanded, not only teaching stop-motion animation but 2D frame-by-frame hand-drawn-style animation, green screen animation, and frame-by-frame pivot-stick-figure-style techniques all using your cellphone or tablet.

Filmmaking Club was started by Kyle Smyth in 2024. We were very excited to have Dan Williams join us soon afterwards. Our club members make original short films and take their projects from screenwriting, editing, production planning, cinematography, directing, and editing to get them to the final product.

Established in 1949, the Milton Canoe and Camera Club has been inspiring photographers throughout Milton and Queens County for decades. This exhibition showcases the creativity, curiosity, and unique perspectives of club members as they capture moments from the world around them.
The Astor Theatre is welcoming abstract artist Joshua Slauenwhite to our upper gallery for the month of September. Joshua is an amature artist who is branching outside of his comfort zone to display his unique collection of handcrafted items. Twenty Years of the Met in Cinemas is a celebration of the Met’s two decades of onstage glory as experienced in movie theatres, featuring highlights from the company’s collection of more than 185 extraordinary onscreen performances.
Hosted by star soprano Renée Fleming, this special presentation will showcase unforgettable moments from some of opera’s greatest stars, culled from the series’ vast archive of transmissions, featuring such remarkable artists as Lise Davidsen, Natalie Dessay, Joyce DiDonato, Elīna Garanča, Dmitri Hvorostovsky, Jonas Kaufmann, Peter Mattei, Matthew Polenzani, Nadine Sierra, and, of course, Fleming herself.
Life Drawing was started by Roger Savage. Weekly studio sessions provide the opportunity for lay and professional visual artists of our region to practice and improve their drawing and observation skills. Participants are from communities along the South Shore. This program costs $20 per session to provide payment to the models used in the drawing sessions.
Are you interet interested in learning about theatre and famous theatre playwrights?
Join Katherine Schellmer in the Playwrights Study Circle! A brand new Astor Academy designed for adults. Meeting on Friday evenings in our Gorham Room, this program will provide a fun, informative learning experience. Katherine has written professionally for theatre, TV, radio, and film. She was also an educator at The National Theatre School of Canada for three years, running a sessional course entitled “Solo Show” in which she mentored and then directed students performing their own works.
She hopes to use her experience/knowledge to invigorate the theatre community in Queens County.
In this program, the group study a specific playwright, as well as the time period the play was written in; world events, cultural events, the forces that shaped the creation of the work, and the
reaction to the work when it premiered.
