The Art of Maya Smith

Maya Smith of Red Feather Studio creates art that celebrates the natural world. The Astor is pleased to present her exhibition. “The Art of Maya Smith,” through November 2025.

“Most of my art is of birds and animals because, since I was a child, they have been my friends and teachers. I create my art from this deep love and connection to nature. I have always had an attention to detail and colour, and this is shown in my art, which I create using either colored pencils, pastels or oils. I love the fine detail I can get working with colored pencils, and I often work 8 to 12 layers deep, allowing the different colours to build up using translucent, oil-based Prismacolor pencils. I also love the rich colours I get with pastels, since they are basically pure pigment, and over time, I have learned to achieve the detailed work I desire with pastels. I am very grateful to be able to share my expression of love for all these beautiful ‘Beings’ with you.” – Maya Smith
