Maritime Marionettes – Molly and the Oak Island Treasure @ Astor Theatre
Mar 18 @ 12:30 pm

Her uncle sang of a treasure hidden deep in the Oak Island ground.
With the help of a friend who shares wisdom, this treasure could surely be found.
Another voice whispers softly to her spirit as she points to the wind. Her fortune, read by the witch Dianna, foretold treasure and an unknown friend.
The treasure they seek will allude them like the wind that pushes their sails.
They’re helped by the Mik’maq Boy, Ulgimmo, and a friendly humpback whale.
So come sailing with Molly and Pixie and be charmed as this tale is told. For a treasure awaits all who join us to watch Molly’s adventure unfold.
Molly, and her fairy friend, set out on her boat for a marvelous adventure in search of buried treasure. They gain the wisdom of a newfound Mik’maq friend along the way.

The Astor Theatre is pleased to present this special choral performance at The Trinity Anglican Church, in partnership with Musique Royale.

Capella Regalis Men and Boys Choir, founded in Nova Scotia by Nick Halley in 2010, builds upon the best aspects of the centuries-old European tradition of men and boys church choirs. The concert will highlight favourites from the sacred and secular choral canon.

Tickets are available through The Astor box office or online from Ticketpro and are priced at $25 in advance or $30 on the day of the show.

Jimmy Rankin’s Kitchen Party – Spring 2022 Edition @ Astor Theatre
May 28 @ 7:30 pm

Just at a time when people are searching out authentic cultural voices, who tell strong stories and write well-crafted songs, Rankin has made an unapologetically East Coast folk-rock record. It’s his take on what it means to live and breathe Maritime tradition, culture and music, but with a raw, unsentimental and current edge. “I’m putting the party back in the kitchen” quips Rankin.

It’s called Moving East because that’s exactly what Jimmy’s done. He’s moved back to Nova Scotia after seven years living and working in Nashville. Hooking up with fellow Nova Scotian Joel Plaskett as producer, he’s made an album appealing to young and old alike, with songs running the gamut from gritty pub tunes to soulful ballads all featuring great storytelling, and fine songwriting.

Join Jimmy and his selected guests when he brings his Kitchen Party to Liverpool on May 28th.

Tickets are $40 and go on sale on Friday February 4th at 11am in the box office and online.

Documentary: Meeting the Beatles in India, including Q&A with Director Paul Saltzman @ Astor Theatre
Jun 10 @ 7:00 pm

Filmmaker Paul Saltzman retraces his journey of 50 years ago when he spent a life-changing time with the Beatles at the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s ashram on the banks of the Ganges River. In 1968, he discovered his own soul, learned meditation, which changed his life, and hung out with John, Paul, George and Ringo. Fifty years later, he finds ‘Bungalow Bill’ in Hawaii; connects with David Lynch about his own inner journey; as well as preeminent Beatles historian, Mark Lewisohn; Academy Award nominated film composer, Laurence Rosenthal; and Pattie and Jenny Boyd. And much of this is due to Saltzman’s own daughter, Devyani, reminding him that he had put away and forgotten these remarkably intimate photographs of that time in 1968.

Narration: Morgan Freeman
Executive Producer: David Lynch (among others)

Director Paul Saltzman will be joining us in Liverpool on June 10th for a very special meet & greet and question and answer session. He will be bringing with him a selection of photographic cards and souvenir photo books available for purchase.

The bar will be open for this special event, so join us for a fun social evening of hearing about Paul’s unique experiences with the Beatles in the 1960s.
