Catherine MacLellan Christmas Show @ The Astor Theatre
Dec 11 @ 7:30 pm

JUNO Award-winning singer-songwriter Catherine MacLellan is bringing her Christmas Show to the Maritimes this year. Sharing beloved classics, self-penned holiday songs and some rare gems, Catherine will be joined on stage by her long-time guitarist Nick Gauthier as well as Tanya Davis.

Catherine says, “I’ve always loved the music of Christmas, and the fun times singing in kitchens with friends and family over a glass of eggnog. That is the energy I’ll be bringing with me, hoping that people sing along and catch some of that holiday spirit!”

Last year, Catherine released her first Christmas album, a self-engineered and self-produced EP, which includes the original single (“Calling You Home (for the Holidays)”) and three beloved classics (“In The Bleak Midwinter”, “Blue Christmas”, and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”).

I love the coziness of winter, it’s a time for introspection but also a time for gathering around fires and feasts. Christmas shows bring in all of that for me, the balance between joyful silliness and the sacred. It makes me feel like a child again,” says Catherine.

Happenstance Theatre’s physical comedy workshop @ The Astor Theatre
Dec 17 @ 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

Explore the genre of physical comedy and learn how to make an audience laugh without using words. This workshop explores physical techniques that support comic performance, with exercises in stillness, focus, reaction, status, the inclusion of the audience and theatrical clowning. Students develop an understanding of the importance of timing in comedy…and of course, no physical comedy workshop would be complete without learning a bit of Slapstick, without getting hurt!

Mark Jaster draws on his training with Étienne Decroux and Marcel Marceau. Sabrina draws on her training in the LeCoq pedagogy with Dody DiSanto with concentration in the realm of the theatrical clown. Their complementary approaches combine to address nuts-and-bolts physical, technical and structural skills and the more esoteric issues of honesty, presence and accessibility.

The workshop will take place at 10am, prior to Pinot & Augustine’s show on the Astor stage at 3pm. For ages 8-15 it will last approximately 2 hours. Priced at $10.

Pinot & Augustine – clown duo @ The Astor Theatre
Dec 17 @ 3:00 pm

A sure-fire 45-minute, bilingual, crowd-pleaser, PINOT & AUGUSTINE is a classic, family-friendly clown duo inspired by the golden age of Circus. Pinot is the authoritarian clown in fancy clothes and white cone hat. Augustine is the appealing red-nosed bumbler who punctures his pomposity. Their show bubbles over with physical comedy, virtuosity and musical surprises from the sublime to the ridiculous: from lyrical melodies on a musical saw to pratfalls and a whoopee cushion.

“If you’d like or need to be reminded of the pure and simple joy of life, PINOT & AUGUSTINE will do the trick.

Their show is pure entertainment, clean and fresh fun…The Most Adorable Show in the World!”                                                                                                                                   – DC Metro Theatre Arts
