THE STAMPEDERS ~ IN CONCERT
CELEBRATING 50 YEARS
‘They’re on their way, to the city lights’ … and, THE predominant Canadian Rock ‘n’ Roll band of the 1970s – The Stampeders – are bringing along all their classic hits: Wild Eyes, Carry Me, Oh My Lady, Devil You, Monday Morning Choo Choo, Minstrel Gypsy, Hit the Road Jack and, of course, the quintessential Canadian – and Hall of Fame – song, Sweet City Woman! A veritable soundtrack to a whole generation that will ‘carry you home’ … maybe not to Birmingham … but back to a time of tie-dyed t-shirts and elevator shoes, 15¢ coffee and homemade apple pie, dating and dreaming … By the time The Stampeders get to the first chorus of the first song, everyone will be singing along.
No seventies group represented Canada’s musical identity to the world like The Stampeders. A quick look at Canada’s music scene from 1971 until 1976 confirms The Stampeders were truly the country’s international musical ambassadors, touring more extensively in Canada and overseas than any other Canadian group during that time. In 1977 the trio: Rich Dodson (lead guitar), Kim Berly (drums) and Ronnie King (bass) parted company but reunited, fittingly at the Calgary Stampede, 15 years later in 1992. Since then they’ve been recognized by SOCAN for their Lifetime Achievement, been inducted into the SOCAN Songwriters Hall of Fame on five occasions and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame for their 1971 seminal hit Sweet City Woman.
The enduring musical legacy of The Stampeders, celebrating 50 years… ‘better catch a noon train, better get there for a rock ‘n’ rolling good time!’

Ashley MacIsaac is a musician and storyteller who needs little introduction, having delighted audiences around the globe for decades. Born in Creignish, on the western side of Cape Breton, by the time he started school, he was performing as a dancer in concerts, graduating to fiddle and piano a short time later. Before he graduated high school, he was playing across North America, including playing and dancing in a Phillip Glass off-Broadway production. Over the years, he has experimented with musical styles, evolving into an award-winning genre bending performer, writer, and singer who has toured and performed for sellout crowds around the world, including the 2010 Winter Olympic opening ceremonies.
Opening the show for Ashley is the newest guitar sensation in these parts: Roland Grant. This Canadian guitar virtuoso, vocalist, and composer is garnering renown for ceaselessly bringing audiences to their feet. With a uniquely individual style incorporating rock with flamenco and Latin influences, he brings his showmanship to the stage with a stellar band. Recent appearances include the 10,500 seat ScotiaBank Centre along with numerous theatres, festivals, and music clubs.
These two outstanding musicians are appearing together for the first time, here on the Astor stage, and we couldn’t be more thrilled. Both energetic masters of their instruments, it will be a night to remember!

With ‘In Praise of the Ostrich’ Derek Edwards moseys back into town on horse-drawn comedy wagon; a searing meander down life’s twisting trails, steered effortfully by this 30-year veteran. He returns with a payload of blissfully funny personal stories – a cacophony of shenanigans – set to tickle the ribs and warm the heart.
With an easy conversational style, Derek reluctantly pulls his head out of the sand and launches into commentary on the influx of pot stores, self-driving cars, gambling tips, the challenge of staying youthful … plus dressing warm.
From Vegas to St. John’s, this Just For Laughs veteran is universally considered to be among the comic elite. Certainly his peers think so, as evidenced by the fact that he’s a four-time nominee, and winner of Best Standup Comic – Canadian Comedy Awards, as well as a multiple Gemini nominee for Best Performance in a Comedy. As Rick Mercer says, “Everyone knows Derek is the funniest man in Canada.”
Clearly the critics agree: “5 STARS – the funniest man on earth” – Winnipeg Free Press; “4 STARS – the crowd howled” – Victoria Times Colonist; “still the funniest man in Canada” – Toronto Sun; “Edwards reigns as the King of Canadian comedy” – Charlottetown Guardian; “Derek Edwards is hysterical” – Calgary Sun; “Edwards takes stand-up to next stage” – Georgia Straight; “the epitome of timing & storytelling” – Halifax Chronicle Herald; “the comedian’s comedian” – London Free Press.
‘In Praise of the Ostrich’ – Derek Edwards’ new 90-minute stand-up comedy show …a richly textured and enthralling ‘cut above,’ delivered with pace and authority by the consummate Canadian Comedian. Down to earth, lots of laughs, wagons ho.

JUNO Award-winning singer-songwriter Catherine MacLellan is bringing her Christmas Show to the Maritimes this year. Sharing beloved classics, self-penned holiday songs and some rare gems, Catherine will be joined on stage by her long-time guitarist Nick Gauthier as well as Tanya Davis.
Catherine says, “I’ve always loved the music of Christmas, and the fun times singing in kitchens with friends and family over a glass of eggnog. That is the energy I’ll be bringing with me, hoping that people sing along and catch some of that holiday spirit!”
Last year, Catherine released her first Christmas album, a self-engineered and self-produced EP, which includes the original single (“Calling You Home (for the Holidays)”) and three beloved classics (“In The Bleak Midwinter”, “Blue Christmas”, and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”).
“I love the coziness of winter, it’s a time for introspection but also a time for gathering around fires and feasts. Christmas shows bring in all of that for me, the balance between joyful silliness and the sacred. It makes me feel like a child again,” says Catherine.
A sure-fire 45-minute, bilingual, crowd-pleaser, PINOT & AUGUSTINE is a classic, family-friendly clown duo inspired by the golden age of Circus. Pinot is the authoritarian clown in fancy clothes and white cone hat. Augustine is the appealing red-nosed bumbler who punctures his pomposity. Their show bubbles over with physical comedy, virtuosity and musical surprises from the sublime to the ridiculous: from lyrical melodies on a musical saw to pratfalls and a whoopee cushion.
“If you’d like or need to be reminded of the pure and simple joy of life, PINOT & AUGUSTINE will do the trick.
Their show is pure entertainment, clean and fresh fun…The Most Adorable Show in the World!” – DC Metro Theatre Arts
