From Dream to Screen, to Filmapalooza and Cannes!
157 filmmakers hit the streets in one wild and sleepless weekend, 23-25 August, in PEI, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, and New Brunswick, to make 19 short films, totaling 95 films in the last 9 editions of Atlantic Canada 48 Hour Film Project.
All 19 short films will Premiere on 22 September, Sunday,1:30 pm at ASTOR Theatre, Liverpool, Nova Scotia and ONLINE. The BEST film will receive $1,000 prize from Tidekite and will compete internationally at Filmapalooza with a chance for the prestigious Cannes. The Audience will also vote for their favorite film for the Audience Award.

Lucy MacNeil brings her trio to The Astor for a show that takes you to the heart of Cape Breton.
Lucy has been performing with the Barra MacNeils for 35 years. They come from a long tradition of Cape Breton music and dance that has been the foundation of creative pursuits over their musical career.
Alongside her brothers, she has travelled all over Europe, the United States, Barbados and throughout Canada from Fogo Island to Iqualuit.
The Barras recorded their first self titled album in 1986 and have continued making music, touring, and recording throughout the years. During the 1990s they were signed with record label Poly Dor and opened for Celine Dion, Kenny Rogers, and were special guests on two of Rita MacNeil’s Christmas Specials.
Lucy began working on her solo career during the pandemic, when time presented itself. She felt in those uncertain times, she wanted to leave something behind of herself and her lifetime attachment to traditional music and song.

As the saying goes ‘all good things must come to an end’ and so it is with Lunch At Allen’s, who will embark on a country-wide Farewell Tour beginning in Atlantic Canada this October. Coming together in 2004, for what was meant to be a one-off 8-date tour presented as a song-writer’s circle, the four renowned artists discovered a soul-warming joie de vivre in performing together … and so began 20 years of camaraderie touring the country coast to coast.
Lunch At Allen’s is a musical powerhouse comprising four remarkable Canadian talents: Murray McLauchlan, Cindy Church, Marc Jordan and Ian Thomas. As individuals, they have written for or sung on over 25,000,000 CDs, penning hits for Josh Groban, Chicago, Bonnie Raitt, America, Santana, Cher and Rod Stewart, as well as Murray’s Farmer’s Song, Marc’s Marina Del Rey and Ian’s Painted Ladies, just to name a few. These three artists have come together adding the incredible voice of Cindy Church (Quartette, Great Western Orchestra) to form Lunch At Allen’s. Artist Chris DeWolf returns for another jewellery workshop. This time she’ll be be teaching participants to texture, cut and patina metal, punch holes and make rivets to connect their charm pieces together.

Enjoy festive tunes, tales and merriment in The Irish Descendants Christmas 2024 performance starring multi-award-winning Newfoundland folk group, The Irish Descendants, with longtime front man Con O’Brien. The group will be joined by Mark Manning and Aaron Collis of the popular Newfoundland folk band, Rum Ragged, creating a powerful ensemble that will be sure to get you into the holiday spirit.
Heading into its fifteenth year, The Irish Descendants Christmas is reminiscent of long-lived old-time Newfoundland and Labrador seasonal celebrations.
“The rich traditions that surround the Christmas season in our typical outport homes are centuries old,” says Con O’Brien. “The show pays homage to these sacred family and community gatherings which have greatly inspired us.”
The show will present songs from The Irish Descendants two Christmas albums, including The Gift (released in 2001), and An Irish Descendants Christmas (released in 2023) plus more festive favourites.
