Art show: Capturing Nova Scotia @ Town Hall Arts & Cultural Centre
Dec 2 2023 @ 11:00 am – Jan 13 2024 @ 4:00 pm

CAPTURING NOVA SCOTIA

This beautiful joint art show with local photographers Marion Power and Linda Hall will be hanging on our gallery walls for the month of December and into January 2024.

Opening on Saturday December 2nd, and closing on Saturday January 13th, the show will be open Tuesday to Saturday from 11am to 4pm. Also during live shows and events. We will close for the holidays between December 24th and January 1st inclusive.

Join us for an opening reception on Saturday December 2nd from 6-8pm.

Marion Power has been photographing coastal areas around Nova Scotia’s South Shore for close to 25 years.

Her photography aims to highlight the dramatic beauty and power of natural land and seascapes. Her work often includes dramatic light conditions that convey the emotional impact of a scene.

Born and raised in Halifax, she has lived in Bridgewater for more than 45 years. Get in touch: marioncpower@gmail.com

Linda Hall will be showing her exhibit Barns of Nova Scotia

Nova Scotia has a rich history of farming and throughout the province there are numerous old farmsteads and old barns.  These old buildings have rich character, with interesting lines, textures, and colors.  Some are well maintained, and sadly some have been abandoned – either way, it is truly amazing how the carpentry of years ago has stood the test of time.

Linda enjoys exploring all types of photography, but landscapes, nature and rural settings represent much of her work and are closest to her heart. She is passionate about being outdoors and exploring our beautiful province.  Whether Linda is in the backcountry hiking or camping or whether she is out exploring backroads and coastal roads by car, she most often explores with a camera in hand, never wanting to miss that perfect moment in time.

Singer, songwriter, and guitarist Matt Andersen is taking the holiday party on the road. In his own words, “I’ll have some friends along with me to join in on the fun for the night. We’ll do up a mix of Holiday tunes and my own songs to warm us all up on a winter night.” It’s never too early to get in the spirit! When Andersen steps on stage, he brings a lifetime of music to every note he plays. Andersen’s stage presence is informed by decades of cutting his teeth in dusty clubs, dim-lit bars, and grand theatres all over the world, delivering soulful performances that run the gamut from intimate to wall-shaking. His latest album, The Big Bottle of Joy, is all about hard-won celebration; a dozen songs infused with raw blues-rock, rollicking Americana, thoughtful folk, and ecstatic gospel. In the studio, he’s always brought the same attention to detail and commitment to craft as he has to his live show, and the result – a multi-faceted and poignant body of work – has led him to amass over 26 million streams on Spotify and 26 million views on YouTube. In addition to headlining major festivals, clubs and theatres throughout North America, Europe, and Australia, he has shared the stage and toured with Marcus King, Beth Hart, Marty Stuart, Greg Allman, Tedeschi Trucks Band, Randy Bachman, Serena Ryder, Tab Benoit, and more.

Ian Thomas…Not Gone Yet! @ The Astor Theatre
Apr 26 @ 7:30 pm

IAN THOMAS … NOT GONE YET!

Full Band Tour

Ian Thomas is “the complete entertainment experience!” He is a film-composer with 22 feature films to his credit; an author; an actor, much sought after as a voice-over artist and recognized for roles such as Dougie Franklin on the Red Green Show… and, of course, a Juno-award-winning Singer-Songwriter whose songs helped form the bedrock of the Canadian musical landscape, a contribution recognized by SOCAN when Ian was honoured with a National Achievement Award for Songwriting.

Ian Thomas first garnered major radio airplay in1973 with the top-40 single Painted Ladies, followed by a string of hits throughout the 70s and 80s, and on into the 90s with his band The Boomers. Whether performed by him or covered by artists including Santana, Chicago, Manfred Mann, America, Bon Jovi and Bette Midler, Ian’s many hits continually achieved heavy rotation on radio across Canada and around the world … recordings such as Come The Sun, Long Long Way, Right Before Your Eyes, Coming Home, Pilot, Hold On, Time Is The Keeper, Liars, Wishes, The Runner, Levity, Back To Square One, Love Ya Too Much, You Gotta Know, One Little Word, Dirty Love, To Comfort You, and of course, Painted Ladies. In the new millennium, Ian joined fellow singer-songwriters Murray McLauchlan, Marc Jordan and Cindy Church to form Lunch At Allen’s, touring coast to coast for the past two decades, and now with five albums to their credit.

Of his art, Ian says: “The song remains the most satisfying creative experience for me. Songs are interactive and, with over 50 years of writing, I have spent many hours with each one and they with me. When I listen to one of my old albums, I remember where I was and the people I made them with, some living, some now dead.  I think about who I am, who I used to be, and who I thought I was. These albums are like flags stuck in the road behind me that wind back, into the past, almost out of view.”

Ian Thomas, with his stellar 4-piece band, brings past to present recreating the original sound of all the hits … 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond. Ian Thomas … Not Gone Yet!
