We are very happy to announce that this summer we will be hosting a full schedule of youth theatre programs!
The Astor has been running summer programs for our talented young people since before the turn of the millennium. After missing out last year and hearing about what a loss this was to our community, we were very sure that this year we would find a way to provide this celebrated Queens County tradition in a COVID-safe way.
Each program will be run by the extremely talented, creative, and experienced Ashley-Rose Goodwin. Many of you will be familiar with Ashley, as she is already a cherished educator in theatre arts, performance, and music. She naturally immersed herself into the world of theatre and music from a very young age. Throughout her youth, she studied classical piano through The Royal Conservatory and performed in over 30 theatre productions; her most memorable theatrical roles were Nancy in Oliver, Sandy in Grease, Maureen in Hot Bed Hotel and Ophelia in The Fall of Loneliness. She is currently completing her Honours Degree in Theatre Studies at Dalhousie with a minor in music, where she is fortunate enough to study Applied Voice. Her most recent production at Dalhousie was an online opera called, The Bat. She recently was inspired by Dalhousie courses like Puppetry, History of Jazz and Site-Specific Theatre. Ashley will incorporate the exciting new material she has studied into her programming at The Astor. She spends her free time outside in nature, exploring spirituality, writing poetry, exercising and listening to a wide range of music. She resides in Liverpool with her four boys, who have been her biggest inspiration and most incredible supporters in her endless creative adventures.
This summer will certainly include something for everyone as we are running four two-week programs! Students will be coached in acting technique, musical theatre, vocal techniques, choreography, improvisation, character development, playwriting, puppetry, site-specific theatre and much more! There will even be an opportunity to test out their new skills and talents in front of a live audience in the Broadway Bound program.
No audition or experience is required to attend the programs, so everyone with a love of acting, singing, and performing in general is invited to sign up for tuition in a safe and supportive environment.
Students should be available for the entire two-week program and must complete COVID-19 screening protocols. However, due to this year’s COVID-19 related restrictions, attendance will be limited to 10 participants in each program. We will be following all Public Health guidelines, so some camp activities may have to be modified.
We will be opening registration at 11am on Wednesday June 16th and are expecting places to be filled quickly. So come in to the box office, give us a call on 354-5250, or email email@example.com to claim your spot!
